I just had the time to also pop into the grand ope I just had the time to also pop into the grand opening of a new exhibition at @rumforserier, an exhibition to which we have lent a number of comics fanzines from the collections at @seriearkivet (The Comics Archive). Love seeing the things we have preserved being used this way.
My whole family, including wifey is sick right now My whole family, including wifey is sick right now, and I’m on general maintenance duty, so I had to settle for a quick fly-by of the inauguration of a new comics exhibition in Malmö. The room was shock full of friends and colleagues, many of whom I hadn’t seen in a while, so I only managed to break free and take a few snapshots after the venue announced they were closing, but it looked good. Gonna go back when I have more time to actually look at the art.
Some media coverage from our bout in Bergen last w Some media coverage from our bout in Bergen last week. That was a fun panel to lead with such interesting artist. Thanks again to Kristian Hellesund for making it happen!
Tonight’s review assignment: The Swedish edition Tonight’s review assignment: The Swedish edition of the brand new Gaston album. This is going to be interesting, considering that I rate Franquin’s classic Gaston La Gaffe as one of my top five best comics ever …

This week, we held the yearly 24-hour comics chall This week, we held the yearly 24-hour comics challenge (to make a 24 pages long comic in 24 consecutive hours, at @serieskolan_kvarnby (The Comics Art School). This was done between Wednesday and Thursday, so today, Friday, everybody made fanzines out of the results, and we all sat around reading them. As always I’m flabbergasted with what can be produced in such a short time when you’re on a deadline. Best day of the year at the school!
On a date with wifey because we have an anniversar On a date with wifey because we have an anniversary today. So, we’ve ditched our youngest kids in the care of the oldest, and eloped to a pub for food, drink and … work :)
Going through and updating my CV for an applicatio Going through and updating my CV for an application, realizing how many strange things I’ve done, and quite often forgotten about … Apparently, in the early 2010s, it was all the rage to make massive encyclopedias about comics, and I was clearly one of the designated writers of entries. I’ve contributed to all of these, writing about major themes such as race, ethnicity and propaganda, but also about specific topics such as Fantagraphics, Trina Robbins, and maybe the least surprising of all, Adamson/Silent Sam :)
I’ve been travelling a lot these last few weeks, I’ve been travelling a lot these last few weeks, which is always fun, but it’s also good to come home. @seriearkivet
Back home again and today’s review assignment se Back home again and today’s review assignment seems to be a true transnational project. Cassiopeias nya stjärna. (The New Star in Cassiopeia), a humorous biography of the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe, is written and drawn by the Danish artist Anders Worm, who works and lives in Stockholm, Sweden. The book has received financial support from both Danish and Swedish institutions (Tycho Brahe’s famous island Ven is situated in the straights between these two countries) and its published by the Danish publisher Fahrenheit, which seems to have established a Swedish daughter company for this very purpose. Fascinating! Now to find out if it’s actually any good :)
One final portrait from Bergen, drawn by the very One final portrait from Bergen, drawn by the very meticulous Norwegian artist @kvamsky, whom I had the honor of hosting in a panel on autobiographical comics. A big thank you to Kristian Hellesund, Arild Wærness and all the other organizers, as well as all the wonderful comics artists, journalists, publishers and so on that I had the privilege to hang out with during the weekend. I had a great time!
Long-time friend and extraordinary comics artist @ Long-time friend and extraordinary comics artist @Malinbill drew me in a flattering comparison to her favorite author and poet Gustaf Fröding.
More wonderful portraits from my trip to Bergen, N More wonderful portraits from my trip to Bergen, Norway. This was drawn, somewhat reluctantly, by the inimitable Tommy Sydsæter, of Pyton fame. Considering the over-the-top comics Tommy is known for, I was expecting something much more grotesque, but I really like it!
Last day of Bergen Text & tegning, and my last ass Last day of Bergen Text & tegning, and my last assignment was moderating a panel on autobiographical comics, with artists @malinbiller (Sweden), @karstein.volle (Norway) and @kvamsky (Norway). A delightful discussion that was photographed and also drawn by Norwegian comics artist @are_edvardsen :)
Had a few hours free, so we decided to do the tour Had a few hours free, so we decided to do the touristy thing and go on a walkabout in the beautiful city of Bergen with @paul_gravett and @karstein.volle. Among the things we got to see was a wonderful, weird gingerbread village …

So, it was just announced that we, the SeF Skåne So, it was just announced that we, the SeF Skåne team, won Comiquiz, the yearly Nordic competition in comics knowledge. We are of course happy and proud to once again being Nordic champions. The team this year consisted of @sekvenskonst, @germundvw, @simonrohrmuller, @stromberghanna, @thuregunnarsson, Christian Kindblad, @m0r60th, Andreas Nyström, Hans Holm and yours truly. Now, I’ll go out celebrating! Cheers/skål!
Second assignment of the day, talking war and comi Second assignment of the day, talking war and comics with a decidedly international panel: @ingis.jensen (Norway), Arild Værness (Norway), @villevhanninen (Finland), @paweltimofiejuk (Poland) and @paul_gravett (UK). Quite interesting to be the representative of a country who has not been involved in war for more than two centuries, realizing just how much more prominent war is in the discourses in our neighboring countries and how that is represented in the comics that are being made.
Another great portrait, this time by Norwegian art Another great portrait, this time by Norwegian artist @are_edvardsen, who, without apparently knowing of my love for Tolkien, or that I am right now re-reading The Hobbit as a bed-time story for my smaller kids, produced this masterpiece. Love it!
Second day at Bergren Text & Tegning, which I star Second day at Bergren Text & Tegning, which I started with doing an artist talk on stage with the very versatile and always hard-working Swedish comics artist @malinbiller. We’ve been on stage so many times so this felt very relaxed, which I hope translated into en enjoyable talk. It’s been a while since Malin was published in Norway, so I hope this might be an impetus for that to change.
