Interior of the strange Japanese collection of the Swedish artist Daniel Ahlgren’s comic about an over-age heavy metal fan. Ove says “Konichiwa!” April 17, 2013 By Fredrik Strömberg 4
Sometimes coming home to your mail is just pure, unadulterated fun. Today, I recieved this strange tome: a Japanese collection of the comic “Ove, den 34-årige hårdrockaren” (Ove, the 34 year old heavy metal fan) by Swedish artist Daniel Ahlgren. Considering that these comics have not been collected in Sweden, I find this little gem of a book fascinating. April 17, 2013 By Fredrik Strömberg 1

When colouring the Chinese edition of the Swedish comic strip Adamson, the publisher has decided that the wrinkles on the character’s chins make up a sleek, white moustasche … Makes him look a bit more Chinese I guess … April 13, 2013 By Fredrik Strömberg 0
More Chinese strangeness: the cover of one of the new Adamson books has an original illustration on the cover, obviously not drawn by Jacobsson. I like the city silhouette in the background, with the Eiffel tower and the Tower Bridge of London … An homage to the international success of the strip, or just shorthand for Europe? April 13, 2013 By Fredrik Strömberg 0
Arrived today in the post: two brand new (2011 and 2012) Chinese color editions of the classic Swedish b&w comic strip Adamson (Silent Sam). I guess I’ve seen stranger things, but not that much stranger… Anyone know anything about this? April 13, 2013 By Fredrik Strömberg 0

Today it’s one year since Kristiina Kolehmainen passed away. I honor her with one of the very last photos I took of her. We were at an official ceremony in Angouleme 2012, where Art Spiegelman was given a prestigious French medal. Kristiina was characteristically unimpressed and sat in a corner chatting away with friend and great artist José Munoz instead. They looked and sounded like an old couple and I remember leaving all the reporters struggling to take photos of Spiegelman to walk over to their corner and take a few photos of them instead. Kristiina was always happiest when meeting up with her friends in the international artist community, and in this beautiful moment, she apparently forgot about her illness, which otherwise plagued her a lot on this her last trip to Angouleme. Today’s haul from a visit to some of the antiquarian book shops in Malmö. All esoteric Swedish stuff :) February 28, 2013 By Fredrik Strömberg 2
My collection of Adamson merchandise is growing with leaps and bounds right now. These two, which arrived through the mail today, are figure sawed out of wood and presumably made privately since I’ve never seen another set. The precision of the work makes me think that there might have been a template printed in a weekly Swedish magazine. Does anyone know anything about this? February 20, 2013 By Fredrik Strömberg 1
And finally, another German made decanter from the 1930s, based on a Swedish comics character, but this time it’s the ultimate skacker Kronblom who has been the model. Hadn’t seen one of these before so, even though I do not collect merchandise with this character, I just couldn’t resist… February 19, 2013 By Fredrik Strömberg 2
Two more for the Adamson/Silent Sam collection. These are bottle stoppers, starting a brand new category in my collection. February 19, 2013 By Fredrik Strömberg 0
Slowly growing my collection of Adamson merchandise. The latest addition is the guy to the right, which seems to be a later, somewhat cruder replica of the classic Goebels decanter. But why make it a mirror image, with the cigarr in the other corner of his mouth? And why the dark skin hue? Anyone who knows anything about this? February 19, 2013 By Fredrik Strömberg 0
