This is the 38th album of the Les Tuniques Bleues and the artist Lambil is as good as ever in his somewhat more realistic version of the dynamic Marcinelle-style. Sometimes I feel, however, that the script writer Cauvin has lost some of his edge thorough the years. In this particular album, though, he rises to the occasion. A battle between the North and the Confederate soldiers is contrasted with a protracted childbirth. Life and death. This has of course been done before, but Cauvin manages just the right balance between nonsense and seriousness. The pacifist end of the story is also spot on.
If there’s something I want to complain about, then it’s the lack of a page or two dedicated to the historical events and people that formed the basis for the story. Cauvin almost always uses historical facts as an inspiration when he writes his scripts, and to read about them would have elevated the reading experience, and made the album more useful in pedagogical institutions such as libraries and schools.

Blårockarna tillhör mina favoriter bland de traditionella fransk-belgiska albumserierna, och det är därför trevligt att se att de numera åter igen utkommer på svenska, tack vare det danska förlaget Mooz/Zoom.
Detta är det 38:e albumet i serien och tecknaren Lambil är precis lika stilsäker som alltid i sin lite mer realistiska version av den dynamiska Marcinelle-stilen. Ibland känns det dock som om manusförfattaren Cauvin tappat lite av stinget med åren. I just detta album håller han dock måttet, med råge. En batalj mellan nord- och sydstatssoldater kontrasteras med en utdragen barnafödsel. Liv och död. Detta har naturligtvis gjorts förr, men Cauvin får till precis rätt balans mellan trams och allvar. Det pacifistiska slutet är också en riktig höjdare.
Är det något jag vill klaga på så är det avsaknaden av en sida eller två om de historiska händelser och personer som legat till grund för historien. Cauvin utgår nästan alltid från historiska fakta när han skriver sina manus, och att få ta del av dem hade förhöjt läsupplevelsen och ökat användbarheten av albumet i pedagogiska institutioner som skolor och bibliotek.
